Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- KFC and Pizza Hut have launched the World Hunger Relief Campaign with the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) to raise wider awareness about hunger and support providing meals to children in schools.

WFP Representative in Bangladesh John Aylieff and Executive Director of Transcom Food Ltd. Akku Chowdhury inaugurated the campaign in Dhaka on Wednesday.

Actress Shomi Kaiser, singers Shakila Zafar and Mehreen, among others, were present at the function expressing their solidarity with the campaign.

The campaign will run for a month, building on the success of the 2008 campaign in which both celebrities and customers participated actively.

In collaboration with the Bangladesh government, WFP, through its school feeding program provides biscuits fortified with vitamins and minerals to 1 million poor children in 7,000 schools in food insecure areas across the country.
