Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia and 37 others were charged with the Jatrabari firebombed cases on Wednesday.
A person was killed and 27 were seriously burnt in a petrol bomb attack on a bus in Jatrabari in Dhaka on January 23 during the BNP-led 20-party alliance announced indefinite nationwide blockade in Bangladesh.
Law enforcers submitted two separate chare sheets against the BNP leaders and activists before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court in Dhaka.
Earlier two cases were filed one for killing and another for carried out the petrol bomb attack.
A day after the arson attack, police filed the cases against 68 BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami leaders, including several top leaders, and a number of unnamed people, in this connection.
Even though BNP chief Khaleda Zia was not accused in the cases, the first information report filed with Jatrabari Police Station mentioned that the accused carried out the attack on instruction of Khaleda during the countrywide indefinite blockade.
