Khasru says BNP to cooperate with govt to protect apparel sector

Chittagong, Bangladesh (BBN)- BNP wants to cooperate with the government to protect the country's garment sectors through playing constructive role in a bid to strengthen the country's economy, Former Commerce Minister and BNP leader Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said. 
Former Commerce Minister said "Remembering our commitment to upgrade the country's garments sectors, our party and I myself did not create any problem in Chittagong port until today though it is situated in my constituency." 
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at the concluding function of 11th"Chittagong Apparel, Fabric and Accessories Exposition-2013" (CAFAXPO- 2013) in the port city on Friday.
Chittagong chapter of Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) organized the 3-day event at CJKS Indoor Stadium to showcase the RMG products and services.
BGMEA President Chairman Sahfiul Islam Mohiuddin presided over the function while BGMEA first vice President Nasir Uddin Chowdhury among others, spoke.
Commerce Minister G M Quder, MP, inaugurated the fair as the chief guest on Wednesday'. 
Speaking at the function the former commerce minister called upon the private sectors basically BGMEA to organize separate road shows in America, Russia, Brazil and Japan for building more confidence and image about the garments sectors on the country.
He also called upon the BGMEA leaders to arrange the CAFAXPO from next year more extensively than this year.
Speaking at the function former state Minister Jafrul Islam Chowdhury, MP, said garment sector is not only contributing to the economic growth but also to social advancement as the sector helps to reduce rural poverty and increase women empowerment.
