Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The ‘6th Knit Exposition 2012’ will begin in Tokyo on January 25 to showcase Bangladeshi knitwear products  to expand apparel market in Japan.

Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) will organize the three-day exhibition on the sidelines of the International Fashion Fair (IFF), the organizers said on Tuesday.

A 125-member business delegation, led by BKMEA President AKM Selim Osman, will participate in the exhibition. A total of 32 stalls will be set up at the venue.

Bangladeshi knitwear exporters have already exported knit products to Russia, South Africa and Brazil, BKMEA president told reporters in the capital Dhaka on Tuesday.

He also urged the government to increase to 10 percent incentive for knitwear export from the existing five percent.

The organizers expect that they can export knitwear products of US$ 750 million to Japan within a few years through arranging the Knit Exposition 2012.

Japan is the third largest knitwear product-importing country in the world. Japan imports knitwear products worth $ 15 billion every year, which is 5.14 percent of the world’s total import.
