Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The country’s apex body for knit products has called upon the apparel factory owners to follow labour law, environ Act and compliance for ensuring the sustainable growth of the sector.
 The Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) has also directed all its members for re-examining electric distribution board, switch board and circuit, fire extinguisher, smoke and heat detector in their factories.
 
BKMEA president Selim Osman gave the directives in a Quran khwani, doa mahfil and kangali bhose(Feeding of destitutes), organized in commemoration of the Saturday’s devastating fire in a garment factory that killed over hundred workers.
 
The BKMEA organized the program at its main office in Narayanganj on Tuesday.
 
The association also directed all to keep open the factories’ main gate including the alternative one, keep the path free from obstructions, ban on smoking in the surrounding area of the factory.
