Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Akhteruzzaman Lavlu of Bhorer Kagoj and Esarraf Hossain Esa of Daily Sun were elected respectively  president and general secretary of the Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) on Friday.

The election was held at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity on Friday.  A total of 177 voters out of 186 cast their votes in the election.

Esa bagged 134 votes while his opponent Moazzem Hossain Nannu of Daily Jugantar got 42 votes. Manjurul Bari Nayan of Daily Bhorer Dak was elected vice-president by getting 105 votes while his opponent Md Jahangir Alam of United News of Bangladesh got 70 votes.

President Lavlu and four others — joint secretary Kamruzzaman Khan of Bhorer Kagoj, organising secretary Jilani Milton of Naya Diganta, training and research secretary Abdul Latif Rana of Focus Bangla and office secretary Mamtajuddin of Daily Janopad were elected unopposed.

The other elected office bearers are: finance secretary Amir Mohammad Jewel of Ittefaq, publicity and publication secretary SM Nuruzzaman of Manabzamin and sports and cultural secretary Indrajit Sarkar of Samakal.

Mizan Malik of Jugantar, Sahin Aalam of Ajkaler Khabar and Abu Jafar of Dainik Janata were elected as executive members.

DRU president M Sakhawat Hisaauin Badsa of Daily Inqilab, Mahmudur Rahman Khokon of Daily Karatoa, Uttam Chakraborty of Daily Janakantha, Touhidul Islam of Naya Diganta, Bibhash Chandra Saha of Independent, Ayub Anshari of Gono Jagoron conducted the election as election commissioners while Aiyub Ansari of Ganojagaran assisted them.
