Kankurgachi, Kolkata (BBN)-The legendary lyricist Govinda Halder died of kidney and old age complications in Kolkata on Saturday. He was 85.
His influential songs inspired the freedom fighters during the Liberation War in 1971.
He breathed his last at the residence of his daughter at Kankurgachi.
Govinda, a music composer of many immortal songs of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra, was received treatment at Jitendranath Roy Hospital in Kolkata for long time.
He returned home from the hospital on December 27, 2014.

Govinda is the writer of a number of celebrated songs like “Mora Ekti Ful Ke Bachabo Bole Juddho Kori”, “Ek Sagor E Rokter Binimoye Banglar Swadhinata Anlo Jara”, “Purbo Digonte Surjo Utheche, Rokto Lal Rokto Lal”, and “Padma Meghna Jamuna, Tomar Amar Thikana”.
Bangladesh President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in separate condolence messages expressed deep shock at the death of the powerful rhymester and conveyed deep sympathy to the members of the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.

Dr. Atiur Rahman, the governor of Bangladesh Bank, also expressed deep condolence at the death of the legendary lyricist. He also prayed for the peace of the departed soul.
