Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Legendry singer Bashir Ahmed died at his Mohammadpur residence in the capital Saturday night at the age of 74.
He had been suffering from various diseases including cancer, family sources said.
Ahmed’s popular songs include Aamake Poratey Jodi Eto Lage Bhalo, Jare Jabi Jodi Ja Pinejor Khule Deyechhi, Ami Sat Sagar Pari Die Keno Shei Pothe Pore Achi etc.
He received many awards, including National Film Award and Ekushey Padak for his contribution in the field of Bangla songs.
A student of Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, Basir Ahmed was also a lyricist and music director.
He was born at Khidirpur in Kolkata in 1939. The noted singer migrated to Dhaka at the beginning of 1960s.
Earlier, he started his career as a playback singer in Urdu films.
