Chittagong, Bangladesh (BBN)- A lighter vessel carrying steel coil capsized at the outer anchorage of the Chittagong port Sunday morning, officials said.
The vessel 'Chisti Shohan', was involved in unloading steel coils from a mother vessel at the Alpha anchorage of Chittagong Port at around 10 am (local time), they added.
Fourteen crews managed to swim ashore, port sources said. However, it was not clear whether any of the sailors is still missing. The CPA has already marked out the area where the accident occurred.
The vessel sank during the loading of cargo. "We’re trying to ascertain the cause of the accident." Syed Farhad Uddin, secretary of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) said, adding that the accident did not cause any problem for the port traffic.
