Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Hundreds of aggrieved locals at Shahjahanpur in Dhaka on Saturday vandalised a few makeshift shanties protesting the “slow rescue operation”, after four-year-old Jahid was found 23 hours after he fell into a deep well shaft there.
The agitated crowd also demanded resignation of State Minister for Home Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal for his statement where he said: “From what we have seen from the footage of the camera, we can say there is no-one there.”
The minister’s statement came after 11 hours since the rescue operation began.
Jihad allegedly fell inside the 17-inch diameter shaft, around 40 yards from his house in Shahjahanpur, at about 4:00pm on Friday while playing with other children.
Locals immediately burst out into fury and blamed the administration for the slower rescue operation.
