Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The monsoon low over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining area intensified into a well-marked low, Bangladesh Meteorological Department said on Saturday.
“It is likely to intensify further. Monsoon is moderate to strong elsewhere over north Bay of Bengal,” the met office said in a bulletin, adding that squally weather may affect the maritime ports and coastal areas of Bangladesh.
The maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Mongla have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal number three.
All fishing boats and trawlers over north Bay of Bengal have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice, the bulletin added.
Cyclonic storm ‘Alia’ hit the country’s southern coastal districts on May 25, killing at least 180 people and injuring many others. The storm also damaged houses, crops and uprooted trees and washed away cattle.
