Mahmudur Rahman released from jail

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Acting Editor of the Daily Amar Desh Mahmudur Rahman was released from Gazipur Jail on Thursday after nine months and 17 days of his arrest.
Several thousand admirers, well wishers, friends and relatives of Mahmudur Rahman welcomed him with bouquets and roses at the jail gate.
The Supreme Court August 19, 2010 sentenced Mahmudur Rahman to six months imprisonment for committing a contempt of court.
He was arrested on June 2, 2010 and on the same day the apex court issued a contempt of court rule against him and four others following a petition.
Two SC lawyers -- Riaz Uddin Khan and Mynul Hassan – filed the petition on May 2 last year for publishing a report.
