New Delhi, India (BBN)-People often complain about being unable to sleep at night or how they suffer from disturbed sleep.
While there could be several reasons for this such as underlying medical causes, stress or a partner that snores, what many people don’t realise is that their bedroom could be the actual culprit!, reports the TNN.
Take a good look around your bedroom — does it induce sleep or is the idea of spending the night on the couch more appealing?
Here are some tips that will help…
– Is your mattress hard or soft enough?
Too hard and you will complain of sleeping on an iron bench and too soft will give you a backache the next morning.
The same goes for pillows.
Another important thing to keep in mind is to figure out what works best for you — cotton or foam mattresses.
Opt for pillows and a mattress that is just firm enough and induces sleep.
– Don’t scrimp when it comes to linen.
Splurge on those nice, expensive sheets and don’t keep them just for special occasions.
When you use nice linen, you might actually look forward to going to bed and sleeping well.
– Invest in some nice curtains for the bedroom windows.
These will keep out the early morning light from entering the room and possibly disturbing your from your sleep.
– Keep the bright lights for the drawing room and kitchen.
Opt for soft lighting for the bedroom that can be adjusted according to your mood and liking.
In case you don’t like sleeping in complete darkness, use a small nightlamp that is enough to provide just a fraction of light.
– Switch off all electronic gadgets at least half an hour before you turn in.
This gives your mind to gradually wind down and relax. And avoid checking your smartphone the moment you wake up in the morning.
– Keep your bedroom as clutter-free as possible.
This is supposed to be a place for relaxation, so when you cram it with things, it will get difficult to actually unwind or relax.
