Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh arrived in the capital Dhaka on Tuesday in a visit expected to give a renewed impetus to the bilateral relations between the two countries.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received the Indian premier and his wife Gursharan Kaur when they alighted from a special aircraft at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 12.05 pm (local time).
A 19-gun salute heralded the arrival of Mr. Manmohan. Later, he was given a guard of honour by a smartly turned out contingent drawn from three services of the armed forces, according to reports.
From the airport, Dr. Singh will directly go to National Mausoleum, Savar to lay wreaths. He will plant a sapling there and sign the visitors' book.
Then he will go to Pan Pacific Hotel Sonargaon where he will stay during his two-day visit.
The Indian delegation is leading a 136-member official delegation will accompany Mr. Manmohan including the chief ministers of Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya and Mizoram.
The Indian delegation also includes External Affairs Minister SM Krishna, Water Resources Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, National Security Adviser Shiv Shankar Menon, Media Adviser Harish Khare, TKA Nair, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister, Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai, a 49-member security team and a 42-member media team.
