Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Nitol Niloy Group Chairman Abdul Matlub Ahmad-led panel has won the biennial election to the Board of Directors of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) for 2015-17.
The panel bagged 25 votes out of 32, a FBCCI Election Board member told the BBN on Sunday.
Matlub’s Unnayan Parishad achieved 13 votes from Association Group while 12 others from Chamber Group, the board member added.
Under the existing FBCCI rules, 32 directors are elected through direct voting – 16 from chamber group and as many from the association group, while 20 directors are nominated by the 10 leading chambers and 10 associations.
A total of 64 candidates of three panels – Swadhinata Byabshayee Parishad, Unnayan Parishad and Byabshayee Oikya Parishad – took part in the elections of both chamber and association groups.
The elected and nominated directors will elect the president, first vice-president and vice-president among themselves on May 25.
