Naypyidaw, Myanmar (BBN)-A battalion commander-level flag meeting started Wednesday morning to repatriate 155 more Bangladesh nationals from Myanmar nearly two months after they had been rescued by the neighbour’s navy in the Irrawaddy estuary.
The meeting commenced around 10:00am at Tekibunia in Myanmar across Ghumdhum border in Naikhyangchari upazila of Bandarban, reports South Asian Media.
A 16-member delegation led by Lieutenant Colonel Rabiul Islam, commander of 17 Border Guard Bangladesh Battalion in Cox’s Bazar, is taking part in the flag meeting.
Myanmar navy rescued 727 migrants from the estuary of Irrawaddy river on May 29.
Of them, Bangladesh authorities confirmed the identities of 155 Bangladeshis.
Over 300 Bangladeshis were repatriated from Myanmar since June 8 after thousands of Rohingya muslims and Bangladeshis found afloat in sea waters of various Asian countries, namely, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.
