Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Mercantile Bank Limited has introduced mobile banking service ‘MPAY’ to establish financial inclusion across the country.
Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Atiur Rahman as the chief guest inaugurated the MPAY at a city hotel on Thursday. 
The BB has approved 17 banks for operating mobile banking operation; of them, 8 banks already launched the service; the central bank also issued operating rules for the banks in order to build a ‘regulatory framework’ to provide financial services to the people through mobile.
The central bank chief said mobile banking is an alternative system of traditional branch banking. Financial service can be carried to the doors of unbanked people service by mobile banking, he added.
Dr Atiur urged all concerned to enhance financial services for the people utilizing the modern technology like mobile banking.
Presided over by the bank’s chairman Abdul Jalil MP, the inaugural ceremony was addressed, among others, by project director of Ekti Bari Ekti Khamar Prasanto Kumar Roy and projector director of Support to Digital Bangladesh Nazrul Islam Khan. Directors and senior executives of the bank attended the function.
