Minister says 8th wage board to be formed soon

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Information Minister Abul Kalam Azad on Thursday said that steps would be taken to form the 8th wage board soon for journalists and newspaper employees following discussion with all stakeholders.

The minister said this while replying to a question from treasury bench member Sadhana Halder at the Jatiya Sangsad.

Responding to a supplementary raised by Awami League lawmaker Apu Ukil, the minister said the allegation of reducing viewers of the state-owned Bangladesh Television is not correct, according to reports.

He said BTV used to plan programs considering the demand of the total population of the country. Describing BTV as the most popular TV channel in Bangladesh, he said BBC World Trust in a study last year last year found BTV as a popular channel.

Replying to a written question from BNP lawmaker M. Harunur Rashid from Chandpur-4, the minister said the matter of telecasting the Bangladesh's TV channels in all states of India is under process.
