Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Abul Kalam Azad has said the government will soon announce the 8th Wage Board for journalists and employees of the newspaper industry. 
The minister said the decision to this effect has been taken after discussions on the issue with leaders of journalists and Newspapers Owners Association of Bangladesh (NOWAB).
“Present government believes in free flow of information and we have established the independent Information Commission for the purpose,” Azad said while addressing as the chief guest the 6th general meeting of TV Camera Journalists Association (TCA) in the Institute of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) auditorium in Dhaka Friday evening.
Presided over by the president of the association Harun-Or- Rashid, the meeting was attended by opposition chief whip in the parliament Zainul Abdin Farroque, BNP Joint Secretary General Barkatullah Bulu, Juba Dal President Moazzem Hossain Alal, general secretary of Awami Swechchasebok League Pankaj Debnath and lawyer Dr Tuhin Malik, among others.
The information minister said the government has already constituted a welfare fund for journalists and donated BDT 5.0 million to this fund in the current fiscal year.
