Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Bangladesh needs US$5.0bn for the coming five years to deal with adverse impact of climate change, Environment and Forest Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said on Saturday.
“Despite financial limitation, the government has so far allocated an amount equivalent of US$350 million from its own budget to implement for addressing the climate change impact, he told the launching ceremony of Community Climate Change Project in the auditorium of Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) at Agargaon in the capital Dhaka.
PKSF Managing Director Dr Quazi Mesbahuddin Ahmed and Acting Country Director of World Bank Christine Kimes, among others, addressed the function with PKSF Chairman Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman in the chair. 
Vice Chancellor of BRAC University Professor Ainun Nishat, Executive Director of Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies Dr A Atiq Rahman and former research director of Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) Professor Dr M Asaduzzaman presented separate keynote papers at the technical session of the function. 
The minister said Bangladesh is one of the most vulnerable country towards climate change and the present government is taking various steps to face the challenges of climate change. 
He urged the development partners to extend their financial cooperation to implement the programs related to climate change.
