Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– The government is relentlessly working to upgrade standard of the universities to make them centers of knowledge and research to enable new generation to face the challenges of modern age, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said. 
“Around seven to eight private universities have achieved desired standard of education since 1992. The private universities are trying to upgrade their standard in line with the government order,” he said on Tuesday while inaugurating Kazi Nazrul Islam and Abbasuddin Ahmed Research and Study Centres at the Multipurpose Hall in Independent University of Bangladesh (IUB).
The IUB has taken a praiseworthy initiative setting up the centers to educate the new generation to know the life and works of the two great personalities of all time, the minister said calling upon other universities to take such initiatives.
IUB accorded reception to Nazrul Researcher and Professor Emeritus Rafiqul Islam, daughter-in-law of Kazi Nazrul Islam, Uma Kazi and noted singer Fedousi Rahman for their outstanding role in their respective fields.
The minister also inaugurated an exhibition of 125 rare photographs of Kazi Nazrul Islam and Abbasuddin Ahmed. The exhibition will continue till Wednesday.
