Mobile phone top-up vendors observing strike

Last updated: October 7, 2012
Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Mobile phone top-up vendors are observing strike across the country by stopping offering credit recharging demanding of increasing their commission to 10 percent from the existing level of 2.7percent.
The vendors under the banner of the Bangladesh Mobile Phone Recharge Business Association (BMPRBA) have been making the demand for long days, but the mobile operators did not pay heed on this issue.
President of the Association Mozammel Hossain said it was their long standing demand to rationalize the portion of the commission as the vendors were not able to lead their lives facing the rising cost of living.
He said this strike will be continued till Monday.
Currently, the mobile loaders get BDT 27 as commission against recharging BDT 1000 which was fixed at the initial stage by GrameenPhone. Other five operators are also giving the same commission.
Secretary of the association H M Bodruddoza said the operators did not increase the commission and it remained same for the last eight years.
