Islamabad, Pakistan (BBN) - Mobile phone services were restored in the cities of Pakistan on Monday after a blackout of 14 hours.
The service providers following the orders of Ministry of Interior had pulled the plug on the networks in Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Quetta at 8:00 PM on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr (Sunday).
The network providers switched their services on after the interior department gave them a green signal Monday morning, local media reported quoting sources.
Earlier on Sunday, Interior Minister Rehman Malik had announced that mobile service would remain suspended in some cities till 10:00 am on Monday and asked the citizens to tolerate this inconvenience for few hours.
Talking to media, Rehman Malik said mobiles phones are being used for blasts and service in Karachi is suspended owing to this threat.
The minister, however, clarified that mobile services would not be shut throughout the country. Service is suspended in Karachi, Lahore, Quetta and Multan for precautionary measures, he noted.
