Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Dr. Nashid Kamal a musician, academician and writer will sing Nazrul songs in memory of legendary Nazrulgeeti singer Ms. Firoza Begum on her first death anniversary, at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, Gulshan-1, Dhaka at 6:30 PM on September 11, 2015.

Grand daughter of legendary Bangladeshi musician Abbasuddin Ahmed, Dr. Nashid Kamal has been an outstanding exponent of Nazrul Geeti, semi-classical and folk music and Urdu ghazals in Bangladesh for over four decades, an Indian High Commission statement said.

She got her PhD from UK in 1996 in Statistics and taught in Dhaka University for 31 years. She was Chairman of the Department of Public Health, North South University.

She trained in classical music under Ustads Akhter Shadmani, PC Gomes and Pandit Jasraj of India. She took tutelage under her aunt Mrs, Ferdausi Rahman and Uncle Mustafa Zaman Abbasi all through her life, ghazals from Kader Zamiree and Nazrul songs from Sudhin Das.

Currently she takes lessons from Ustad Azad Rehman
Among her notable performances are, she has sung in the inaugural session of Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata (1989), Wembley Arena ,London and solo performances, including foreign songs in Japan, Canada, USA (Fobana), India, Kenya, Zambia, Pakistan and Europe .

She represented Bangladesh in Uzbekistan International Festival (2007) and NY Boi mela (2013). She is a regular performer in Tara Muzik, as well as an anchor.

She has received Channel I best artist award in Nazrul songs in 2011. Apart from her other prizes, she has received the Nazrul Institute Award (for music and translation) in 2014.
