Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - The Chittagong Port Authority on Thursday inaugurated the newly constructed North Container Yard aiming to increase the number of container handling.
Shipping ministry secretary Sheik AK Motahar Hossain inaugurated the yard as chief guest while CPA chairman commodore RU Ahmed was in the chair.
The container yard has the capacity to house 8,400 TEUs (twenty equivalent unit) of containers.
With its inauguration container housing capacity of the port rose to 35,000 TEUs, according to reports. The project was implemented with BDT 640 million.
The newly constructed container yard, equipped with modern facilities, including straddle carrier, forklift and tractor trailer, would help the port increase an annual income of BDT250 million, the New Age, a local newspaper, reported quoting CPA sources.
