Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– Ericsson has appointed Gary Dewing as Managing Director of Ericsson Bangladesh Limited. Dewing succeeds Per-Henrik Nielsen, who will assume another assignment in the company, a company announcement said on Thursday.
Dewing brings with him 30 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. He was previously Regional Head of Sourcing and Country Manager, Ericsson Nigeria, within the Sub-Saharan African region.
 
He joined Ericsson in 1995 and was instrumental in developing the company’s industry-leading services operation, which has grown significantly during the last decade.
 
Ericsson Head for Region Southeast Asia & Oceania, Arun Bansal, says “Gary brings a diversity of experience and a strong track record to this role.  Ericsson is keen to build on its leading position in mobile networks, telecom services and support systems in the country.  We are keen to help our customers explore innovative new business models, especially in the area of mobile broadband, and Gary’s experience in other countries and regions will allow us to share best practices with our customers.”  
Bangladesh’s mobile communications sector has seen significant progress both in the voice and data market during the last five years.  The number of people using mobile data in urban Bangladesh grew from 3.0 percent in 2007 to 20 percent in 2011 in urban areas, while the number of mobile data users grew from 1.0 percent to 4.0 percent in rural areas for the same period, according to a recent study by Ericsson ConsumerLab.
Gary was born in South Africa and completed his Higher National Diploma at Witwatersrand Technikon, South Africa.
