Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - SM Nurul Hoque, a senior business leader, has been elected as president of the Bangladesh Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) for 2016-17.
Mr. Hoque graduated from Chittagong University, started business in 1984 as a pioneer in apparel and clothing sectors of Bangladesh.
Other office bearers of the BMCCI are Sheikh Md. Abdus Sohhan, Sr. Vice President; Yacoob Md Ariff and Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu Vice Presidents; SaifAhmed, Secretary General; ZuBay Thiha, Myanmar, Joint Secretary; M MuslehUz Zaman, Executive Director and Dewan Ariful Islam Faruk, Director Finance.
Other directors of the Board include: Abdul Mobin, Quamruddin Ahmed, Enayet Ullah Siddiqui, Mohammad Arefin, Md Lokman, Harun-Or Rashid, Golam Sarwar, Gias Uddin, AlhajSirajul Islam, Sheikh Mahfuz Hamid, Md Musa, Omar Faruque Sabuj and Halimuzzaman.
“We want to expedite bilateral trade relations between the two countries,” Mr. Hoque told BBN in Dhaka.
He also said the BMCCI thinks joint collaboration in the areas of connectivity such as: physical like road link, airline and shipping routes, virtual like telecom and financial like banking channels would help increase the bilateral business.
Mr. Hoque has long association with different trade bodies in Bangladesh with taking import responsibility.
He served Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCCI) as Senior Vice-President, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) as First Vice-President, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) as Director, SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industries (SAARC CCI) as Executive Committee Member.
He also served as Chairman of the Election Board of Real Estate Housing Associations of Bangladesh (REHAB).
He is a founder member and current Chairman Chittagong Laboratory School and College and REMA Teacher’s Training College.
As Chair, he organized Chittagong International Trade Fair (CITF) 2001 for CCCI.
He also represented Bangladesh – Myanmar Joint Trade Commission meetings held in Bangladesh and Myanmar and contributed in bilateral issues.
Mr. Hoque has been selected as CIP (Commercially Important Person) in 2011 and awarded in 2012 for positive contribution in exports of Bangladesh.
