Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – “Operation Clean Street” kicked off in the capital, Dhaka on Sunday to rid the city-dwellers of severe traffic jams during the holy month of Ramadan.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) will conduct the operation from eight zones in the capital through mobile courts.

Additional Secretary of Department of Roads and Rails Shafiq Alam Mehedi and DMP Commissioner AKM Shahidul Haq inaugurated the operation in front of BG press in Dhaka on Sunday morning after a meeting of the 12-member committee formed earlier to supervise the operation through separate mobile courts.

So far, seven people have been arrested, BDT 20,000 realized as fine and at least 20 vehicles seized for violating traffic rules, according to reports.
