Opposition calls 60-hr strike from Sunday

Last updated: October 25, 2013

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - The opposition has called a 60-hour general strike, generally known as hartal from Sunday morning, giving the government a two-day ultimatum to initiate a dialogue on a neutral election-time government.

Opposition leader Khaleda Zia made the announcement from a anti-government rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital Dhaka Friday afternoon.

‘We’ll resist holding any election under Sheikh Hasina and no election can be hold without the participation of all political parties,” she said.
Khaleda also alleged the government has only worked to defend the interest of the party; it has not worked for the people.

BNP Dhaka city unit Convener Sadek Hossain Khoka presided over the rally.
