New York, US (BBN)-Popular TV host Oprah Winfrey has raked in about $12 million in American company Weight Watchers’ shares after posting a tweet about losing weight while still eating bread.
The 61-year-old media mogul is a shareholder in Weight Watchers, reports The PTI.
After she posted a short video message about being able to lose 26 pounds while still eating bread, shares in the weight loss brand increased by 18 per cent, or around $2.10 per share, within an hour.
Oprah has a 15 per cent stake in the company, according to Market Watch.
The multi-million dollar tweet shared a video link alongside a message, which read: “Eat bread. Lose weight. Whaatt? #ComeJoinMe (sic).”
In the 30-second clip, Winfrey said: “I lost 26 pounds, and I have eaten bread every single day.”
Winfrey, who has a deal with the company that includes making personal endorsements, singlehandedly added nearly $150m to Weight Watchers’ market capitalisation, with her stake gaining about $12.5m in value.
The star won’t be able to bank her profits just yet as she would have to sell her shares to get the funds.
She became a spokesperson for Weight Watchers in October, following the footsteps of the likes of Jennifer Hudson and Jenny McCarthy who have previously represented the group.
