Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The commercial banks and non-banking financial institutions (NBFIs) disbursed a loan amounting to BDT 537.194 billion to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in 2011 that was BDT 1.755 billion higher than the previous year, officials said.
The loan disbursement target to SMEs was BDT 569.00 billion but the amount disbursed was BDT 537.19 billion, according to the central bank statistics.
Around BDT 258.56 billion had been disbursed in 2011 which was BDT 230.33 billion in 2010 in small enterprise sector. Around 40 percent SME loans have to be disbursed in small enterprises as per the rules of SME loan policy but it was 48.13 percent in 2011 and 43.02 percent in 2010.
BDT 20.454 billion had been disbursed among the women entrepreneurs in 2011 which was BDT 2.434 billion up than 2010, that means it was 13.49 per cent higher.
In manufacturing sector, BDT 151.477 billion loan was disbursed in 2011 which was BDT 6.58 billion higher than in 2010.
In service sector, over BDT 35.00 billion SME loan had been disbursed in 2011 which was BDT 1.751 billion higher than that of the previous year.
“The banks and NBFIs were able to fulfill 96 percent of their target,” a senior official of the Bangladesh Bank (BB) said, adding that they could not achieve the target as the target set was much higher in 2011 than in 2010.
In trading sector, around BDT 343.826 billion had been disbursed in 2011 which was BDT 6.578 billion higher than the previous year, the BB data showed.
