Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)-Pakistan is ready to export food grains to Bangladesh in competitive prices, Deputy High Commissioner of Pakistan Afzaal Mahmood said on Wednesday.

“Bangladesh can import rice and wheat from Pakistan in competitive prices, following good harvest there this year and subsequent surplus of food grains,” Mr. Afzaal was quoted by the Financial Express (FE), a local newspaper, as saying after a meeting with Commerce Minister Muhammad Faruq Khan at his secretariat office in the capital Dhaka.

The Pakistani diplomat also said he has discussed with the commerce minister about the planned Joint Economic Commission (JEC) meeting between Bangladesh and Pakistan, expected to be held early next year in Islamabad.

“We have more than US$100 million investment in Bangladesh right now. Bangladeshi entrepreneurs can invest in ceramics and pharmaceuticals sectors in Pakistan, and the Pakistanis can in textile and service sectors in Bangladesh,” Mr Afzaal mentioned.
