Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – The National Board of Revenue (NBR) and the country’s apex trade body have finalized the list of a ‘panel of facilitators’ to resolve tax-related disputes through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), officials said.

The 12-member panel of facilitators, comprising former caretaker government advisers, tax officials and chamber leaders, will help the taxpayers and the taxmen settle tax-related dispute out of court.

Chairman of the NBR Nasir Uddin Ahmed and President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) AK Azad signed an agreement at NBR conference room on Thursday in presence of the panel of facilitators.

The facilitators include former caretaker government advisers Syed Manzur Elahi and Begum Rokia Afzal Rahman, International Chamber of Commerce, Bangladesh (ICC Bangladesh) president Mahbubur Rahman, Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) president Anis Ud Dowla, MCCI vice-president Barrister Nihad Kabir, convener of income tax related sub-committee of FBCCI Humayun Kabir, former NBR members Abdul Latif Shikder, Ali Ahmed, Mohammad Shahabuddin, Mohammad Delwar Hossain, former tax commissioner Md Humayun Kabir Bhuiyan, member of income tax appellate tribunal Tareq Haider.

There will be separate cells of the ADR process at Chittagong Customs House, south zone of VAT and Excise Commissionerate, income tax zone-1 and two units for large taxpayers.

The ADR law was now waiting for vetting of the Ministry of Law and it was scheduled to be launched from February 1 next, the NBR chairman said.
