Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Probashi Kallyan Bank (PKB) will provide migration loan to workers seeking jobs in Malaysia, said officials.
“We’ve taken initiative to give loan to the workers who have already been selected for jobs in Malaysia,” a senior official of the government bank said.
He also said some 6,000 job seekers have so far shown interest to get loan to maintain their migration cost for Malaysia. “But we are ready to give credit to all the candidates.”
He said a total of 10,447 candidates have participated in pre-departure training program.
The borrowers will be provided with loan at only 9.0 percent interest but they will get the total migration cost if they want, he added.
Besides, the job seekers who will not take credit from the special bank, can also transact money through the bank for paying all types of fees.
The migration cost has been fixed at BDT 40,000 for each worker for going to Malaysia. The borrowers have to pay loan within their job contract period.
According the Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment (EWOE) information, the first batch comprising some 300 Bangladeshi workers will fly for Malaysia on March 27 next.
Initially, Kuala Lumpur will receive 10,000 labourers in its plantation sector. But gradually it may recruit nearly 0.5 million workers from Bangladesh.
The PKB has so far distributed BDT 140 million as loan among some 1,400 people for going to Europe and Middle Eastern countries. The highest loan ceiling is BDT 120,000 while the lowest being BDT 84,000.
