Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- The central bank on Tuesday asked commercial banks not to place chaques amounting to Tk one crore and above in clearing house of eight banks as the banks are facing liquidity crunch.
The eight banks are: Islami Bank, Social Islami Bank, First Security Islami Bank, Union Bank, Global Islami Bank, Padma Bank, National Bank and Bangladesh Commerce Bank, according to officials.
“We’ve verbally communicated the directive to the banks to avert clearing problem,” a senior official of the Bangladesh Bank (BB) told BBN seeking anonymity and without any elaboration.
Talking to the BBN, a senior executive of a leading private commercial bank said his bank has already taken necessary measure in this connection.
He also said chaques clearing of these banks are facing problems as these banks have failed to manage their current account with the central bank properly mainly due to the shortage of their liquidity.
