Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- More than 100 people were injured as apparel workers ran amok in two separate industrial areas of Bangladesh on Monday.
Several hundred ready-made garment (RMG) workers vandalized more than a dozen garment factories in Fatullah industrial area under Narayanganj district on Monday morning demanding a hike in their salaries.
Another group of workers in Savar put up blockades on Dhaka-Aricha highway and damaged around 25 vehicles halting traffic movement for over an hour.
Workers at both places clashed with police in which over 100 people, including police were injured, according to reports.
Witnesses said police charged baton and fired rubber bullets and teargas canisters at the protesters to bring the situation under control.
Among the 50 injured workers in Saver, one person with bullet injury was admitted to a nearby clinic, police confirmed.
In Fatullah, two groups of workers chased each other during the clashes creating a panicky situation in the area. They hurled brickbats and stones while some others used sticks during the clashes.
At one stage of the clashes, police resorted to baton charge to disperse the troublemakers. The injured workers were taken to different hospitals and clinics in the area.
