Prayer timing to remain unchanged

Last updated: June 18, 2009

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) - The clock is being advanced by one hour Friday night but the timing of prayer will remain unchanged, the Islamic Foundation said on Thursday.

Explaining the change, Islamic Foundation said the timing of namaj (prayer), roza (fasting) and iftar is inexorably linked with sunrise and sunset from time immemorial. Hence, prayer timing will be followed in accordance with the timing of sunrise and sunset without any change.

As the clock is advanced by one hour from 11pm Friday, the existing prayer timing should be adjusted with the clock.

From June 20 (Saturday) the Fazar prayer will start at 4-44 am (in accordance with the clock time) when the sun rises at 6-11 am. Similarly, the timing of Magrib prayer at sunset will be7-49pm (according to the new clock time).
