Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Prices of lentil, egg, flour, vegetables and fish increased further in the capital Dhaka as traders blamed supply shortage for the hike.
They said vegetables and fish prices were up by BDT 10-20 and BDT 20-50 per kg respectively in city’s different kitchen markets. But prices of chicken, mutton and beef maintained the earlier trend, they added.
Brinjal was selling at BDT 40, ladies finger at BDT 40, patal at BDT 40-45, bitter gourd at BDT 35-45, green papaya at BDT 35-40, carrot at BDT 50 and cucumber at BDT 45-50 per kg.
The green chili was retailing at BDT 50-60, which was BDT 60-80 a kg while tomato prices came down to BDT 80 from BDT 100 earlier.
Local lentil was sold at BDT 118-120 per kg and the Nepalese variety ranged from BDT 120 to 125 per kg.
Other varieties of red lentil were selling at BDT 75-Tk 90 per kg and ‘mung’ variety at BDT 115-120 per kg.
Local lentil price increased by 4.85 per cent and the Nepalese variety by 4.26 per cent in a month, the state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) data showed.
Egg prices stood at maximum BDT 40 on Saturday for every four pieces up by BDT 4.0.
Prices of flour–both Atta and maida—have increased by BDT 2-3 per kg in the market. Atta was selling at BDT 70 for a two kilo packet, which was BDT 65 in the previous week. 
Loose maida was selling at BDT 42-44 and packed variety at BDT 46-48 per kg.
The TCB data also showed atta price increased by 12.07 and 16 per cent and maida by 2.27 and 30 per cent in a month and over the year respectively. 
Per kg of broiler chicken was selling between BDT 165 and BDT 170 on Friday. Beef was selling at BDT 275-BDT 280 per kg and mutton at BDT 425- BDT 450 per kg.
However, the prices rice and sugar were stable in the market.
Prices of bottled edible oil of different brands, namely Rupchanda, Teer and Fresh, now hovered at BDT 135 for one litre, BDT 266 and BDT 270 for two litres and BDT 665 and BDT 670 for five litres respectively.
Loose soybean oil also sold at BDT 132 per kg and palm oil at BDT 105 per kg.
Prices of local onion ranged from BDT 30 to BDT 35 kg and the imported variety was at BDT 22-25 per kg. Ginger ranged from BDT 50 to BDT 70 per kg. Garlic was sold at BDT 50-Tk 90 per kg. 
A pair of medium-sized hilsha was selling at BDT 1,200-1,800, ruhi at BDT 250-BDT 300 per kg, ‘katla’ at BDT 250-BDT 280 per kg, ‘tengra’ at BDT 350-BDT 450 per kg, ‘poa’ and ‘magur’ at BDT 600-650 per kg, ‘pangas’ at BDT 110-BDT 120 per kg, ’tilapia’ at BDT 130-Tk 150 per kg and shrimp at BDT 350-Tk 650 per kg.
