Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has received her salary for the month of March through Electronic Fun Transfer (EFT) system, most sophisticated transaction mechanism introduced by Bangladesh Bank (BB) as part of its digitalization of banking services.
The central bank of Bangladesh is also disbursing salaries for cabinet members, and officials of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and finance ministry through EFT, the BB said in a press statement on Thursday.
Earlier, salaries and allowances of the government officials were disbursed through cheques issued by the office of the comptroller and auditor general of Bangladesh.
BB has also taken steps to disburse salaries and allowances for officials and employees of other ministries through EFT.
The central bank introduced EFT from February last year under Bangladesh Electronic Fund Transfer Network (BEFTN) to provide people an easy, faster and hassle-free services, especially for giving tax, utility bills and remittance transfer.
At present, EFT helps BB settle transactions worth BDT 1.0 billion through 12,000 entries everyday, the BB added.
