Profit-taking pushes Dhaka stocks into negative territory

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- All the indices of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) fell on Thursday as investors booked profit from most of the sectors, market operators said.

The DSE General Index (DGEN) was down by 0.78 per cent or 63.47 points to end at 8108.11 on Thursday

The broader DSE All Shares Price Index (DSI) ended at 6728.63, shedding 0.75 per cent or 50.67 points. The DSE-20 index dropped slightly by 0.03 per cent or 1.49 points to 4961.44.

Turnover declined to BDT 13.44 billion from the previous session's BDT 16.22 billion. The losers took strong lead over the gainers, as out of 245 issues traded, only 68 advanced, 172 declined, and five remained unchanged.

Apart from Banks (+0.25 percent), all other sectors lost on Thursday. Telecommunication, non-banking financial institutions, Power and Pharmaceuticals lost 2.26 percent, 1.24 percent, 1.36 percent and 1.86 percent respectively. Cement and Tannery also shed 1.52 percent and 2.63 percent respectively.
