Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Thousands of protesters on Friday in the Jagoron (Awakening) rally at Shahbagh in the capital Dhaka called upon all to build a strong resistance against the anarchic and subversive activities of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir by forming human-forts.
“We’ve to ensure strong vigilant and keep close eyes to resist them,” said Imran H Sarkar, convener of the ‘Blogger and Online Activists Network’ (BOAN) while addressing the rally.
He also called for conducting a mass campaign to boycott the war criminals everywhere and build Prajanma Chattar in each corner of the country.
The protesters announced that all the educational institutions across the country will hoist national flags and sing national anthem at 10 am on Sunday.
The grand rally started at 3.50 pm with the national anthem.
Thousands of protesters from different parts of the city as well as the country thronged the Shahbagh Square chanting various slogans demanding death penalty for the war criminals.
The wave of protests at Shahbagh broke out hours after the verdict against Jamaat leader Abdul Quader Mollah when an online activists’ group, Blogger and Online Activists Network (BOAN), gave a call through online social networks to raise voice against the verdict.
On February 5, the International Crimes Tribunal-2 (ICT-2) sentenced Abdul Quader Mollah, assistant general secretary of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, to life term in jail for his crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
