Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Leaders of left student bodies on Friday demanded that the National Press Club membership of those involved in Jamaat-e-Islami politics, including that of Abdul Quader Mollah and
Muhammad Kamaruzzaman be scrapped.
The demand came from the `Prajanma Chattar’ grand rally in the capital, organised by Blogger and Online Activist Network (BOAN), where tens of thousands of protesters converged.
The leaders also demanded the authorities concerned make the Press Club free from Jamaat supporters announcing that Jamaat-Shibir would be resisted across the country.
Those leading the movement also demanded a ban on the politics of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir and closure of their all commercial establishments, including media outlets.
Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, Jahangirnagar University Vice Chancellor Dr Anwar Hossain, Prof Anu Mohammad, educationist and eminent writer Prof Muhammad Jafar Iqbal, writer Anisul Haque, and leaders of Sector Commanders Forum and various socio-cultural bodies were seen on the makeshift podium built on two trucks put together to address the ongoing rally.
The grand rally seeking capital punishment of all the war criminals, including Jamaat leader Abdul Quader Mollah, began at Shahbagh intersection, now known as `Prajanma Chattar’, with national anthem at 3:00 pm on the day.
