Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN) – Md. Rakibur Rahman has been elected President of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) for the next one year.
Mr Rahman, managing director of Midway Securities Ltd, replaced Md Shakil Rizvi. Rakibur also served the DSE as its president for two terms.
The election was held at the 50th annual general meeting (AGM) of the DSE’s board of directors at a city hotel Thursday evening.
The presidential election of the DSE attracted more focus this year as the market has been facing volatility since January last year when it crashed.
Ahmed Rashid, managing director of Rashid Investment Services Ltd, has been elected as senior vice-president and Md Shahjahan, managing director of Jahan Securities, as vice-president.
On March 11, four directors of the DSE were elected. The newly-elected directors are Md Hanif Bhuiyan of Rapid Securities, Md Shahjahan of Jahan Securities, Abdul Haque of Royal Green Securities, and Minhaz Mannan Emon of BLI Securities.
There are 12 elected and 12 nominated members in the DSE board of directors. Four directors retire every year, and four others replace them through direct voting.
