Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– Rangpur municipality turned into City Corporation of the country on Sunday.
The LGRD and Cooperatives Ministry through a gazette notification announced the Rangpur divisional town as a City Corporation effective from on Sunday.
A gazette notification was issued on June 28 upgrading Rangpur municipality to City Corporation of the country.
Rangpur City Corporation became the country’s 10th city corporation.
Under the existing laws, an election to the newly formed city corporation has to be held within 180 days of publishing the gazette.
People of Rangpur came out to the street to celebrate the declaration as soon as the news had spread, according to reports.
