Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Work on renovation of the Ruposhi Bangla Hotel is set to begin by the middle of the next year to attract more guests with comfortable services, officials said.
An amount of US$40 million will be spent on the renovation.
“Size of the rooms will be expanded and all other facilities will be boosted,” said Managing Director of the Bangladesh Services Ltd (BSL), owner of the Ruposhi Bangla Hotel, Air Commodore (retd) Lutfor Rahman.
During the renovation works, the hotel will remain closed till December 2015, he said at a press briefing at the hotel in Dhaka.
The BSL already signed a 30-year management deal with the InterContinental Hotels Group Plc (IHG), a UK-based global hotel company, in February last year.
The Ruposhi Bangla Hotel, formerly Dhaka Sheraton, will be re-branded as InterContinental Dhaka after its renovation, to be completed in December 2015.
Size of each room will be expanded to 40 square metres from existing 26-sqm, Mr Rahman said.
The MD of the BSL said staffs of the hotel will not lose job during the renovation works.
“Some manpower will work at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre, technical and logistical employees will stay at the hotel and the remaining workforce will be appointed at the IHG hotels abroad,” he noted.
The BSL group is now operating the BICC.
The IHG officials are working to prepare a design of the hotel for renovation works with the support of the BSL.
The InterContinental Dhaka will be one of the best hotels in South and South-East Asia after renovation, an official of the IHG told the press briefing.
