Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– Connecting Youth for Change (CYC) in collaboration with Relief International (RI), a USA based international non government agency, distributed warm clothing on Friday to the cold affected people in the country’s northwestern Chapainababganj District.

Through a new initiative ‘Winter Smiley, Helping Humanity, the CYS distributed about twelve hundred warm clothes to more than 700 people at the village of Noyadiari under Gomostapur Thana in the district. The distribution took place at the campus of Noyadiari Hazi Yakub Ali Mondol High School.

The severe cold wave that hit Bangladesh again this winter has caused immense suffering among the nation’s people, especially those living in Northern-Bangladesh.

Devoid of warm clothes and proper shelter, the poorest segment of the nation who mostly live in the country’s vast rural areas, have been among those who are hit hardest. In light of this issue, CYC and RI took a stand to address this recurring problem and to extend a helping hand to those ill-fated and underprivileged people.

“I believe that our initiative will not only serve those who receive the support, but will also encourage other youth and organizations to come forward and undertake similar ventures. As a result, other communities and villages in need can also benefit”, Nazrul Islam, Bangladesh Country Director of Relief International, said in a statement.

Youth volunteers of CYC collected the warm clothing from different educational institutions of Gazipur and purchased about two hundred additional pieces of new clothing, the statement said, adding that Relief International provided financial resources to purchase the additional warm clothes.
