Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– BNP’s joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed was arrested from a house of Baridhara area in the capital Dhaka on early Saturday, officials said.

Shamsuddin Didar, a staff of BNP chairperson’s media wing reportedly said that a RAB team raided a Baridhara residence at around 2:45am and arrested Mr. Rizvi. He however could not give details to this end.

RAB officers also confirmed the arrest of Mr. Rizvi from a house at Baridhara in Dhaka.
Mr. Rizvi, who had been releasing statements from a hideout for the past few weeks, was taken into custody roughly 10 hours after releasing the latest statement.

Earlier on Friday afternoon, the BNP leader called a 72-hour shutdown across the country through issuing a statement.

Police picked up Mr. Rizvi from BNP’s Nayapaltan central office at 11:30pm on January 3 and admitted him to Apollo Hospital at Bashundhara saying that the BNP joint secretary general has been feeling ill and that they help him taking to hospital.

After two days, Mr. Rizvi left the hospital without telling the hospital authority and went into hiding since January 6.
