Road accident kills seven in northeastern Bangladesh

Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- At least seven people were killed and 20 others wounded when a bus collided head-on with a truck on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in the country’s northeastern Sylhet district Friday morning, police said.
The accident occurred at around 6:00 am at Dayamir area in Osmani Nagar upazila (sub-district) when a Sylhet bound bus collided head-on with a stone-laden truck coming from opposite direction killing seven persons including senior vice-president of Sylhet District Awami League Iftekhar Hossain Shamim on the spot.
The injured, including Shamim's wife, were admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital for treatment, a medical official said.
The namaj-e-janaza of Shamim, also a valiant freedom fighter and former General Secretary of Sylhet district Awami league, will be held at Sylhet Government Alia Madrasa ground after Asar prayer on Friday.
Later, he will be buried at Hazarat Shah Jalal Dargha graveyard, according to reports.
