Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)– At least 16 people, including an Awami League leader and a senior journalist, were killed in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Sylhet, Gaibandha and Jessore districts of Bangladesh. 
In Dhaka, Bibhas Chandra Saha, a senior journalist of the English daily The Independent and Shahidul Islam Titu, a photojournalist of daily Matobad, a local newspaper in Barisal, were killed in separate road accidents in the city’s Dhanmondi and Shahbagh areas, on Friday.
Police said, a passenger bus rammed motorcycle of Bibhas in front of Star Kabab Restaurant at Road no 2 around 5.30pm, some five hundred yards away from his office. He died on the spot.
While a photojournalist was killed and two others suffered injuries when a bus hit a rickshaw carrying them in city’s Shahbagh area on the day.
Eight people, including senior vice-president of Sylhet District Awami League Iftekhar Hossain Shamim, were killed and 20 others injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway under Osmani Nagar upazila (sub-disyrict) Friday morning. 
Police said the accident occurred at around 6 am in Dayamir area when a Sylhet-bound bus collided head-on with a stone-laden truck coming from opposite direction killing seven persons on the spot.
Five people including four members of a family were killed as a truck rammed a van in the country’s northern Gaibandha district Friday morning.
In Jessore, one person was killed as a motorbike hit him on Navaron-Satkhira road at Pipragachhi in Benapole upazila while crossing road near his house early Friday, according to reports.
