Dhaka, Bangladesh (BBN)- Shahed Chowdhury, Chief Reporter of the daily Shamokal, and Elias Khan of daily Amar Desh, were elected president and general secretary respectively of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Friday for the next one year.
Shahed Chowdhury bagged 647 votes while his nearest candidate Asaduzzaman Samrat polled 141.
Elias Khan got 310 votes defeating his nearest Sajjad Alam Khan Topu of the daily Jugantor.
The other office-bearers are: Vice-president Ziaul Kabir Sumon (310), joint secretary Elias Hossain (441), finance secretary Rezaul Karim (560), organizing secretary Raju Ahmed (362).
Nearly DRU 800 members cast their votes in the election to elect their leaders.
The voting started around 9:00am and it continued till 5:00pm with an hour of break from 1:00pm to 2:00pm for Juma prayers.
